“Having these friendships at work make even the not-so-fun parts of the work enjoyable. I’m very glad to be part of the Crewing team, which has been a great learning experience. I’m learning new things every day at work!”

I first joined SPO in 2005 as a Crewing Assistant, after which I was promoted to Crew Officer and subsequently, Crew Assistant Manager. After that, I was promoted to my current role as Crew Manager and oversee a team of crewing officers. When I joined SPO, I had no prior work experience in the maritime industry. Fortunately, I had a patient, resourceful and supportive superior who was willing to spend extensive amount of time and effort to train and mentor me. My passion for the work grew over the years with increased knowledge and work experience.

As a Crew Manager, I oversee responsibilities of looking after seafarers that SPO employs, from job rotations to staff benefits. The unpredictable nature of the work and dynamic challenges in this industry require me to think on my feet at all times and work closely with my team to resolve day-to-day operational issues. Besides these, the close interaction with our culturally diverse seafarers also make my work interesting and give me a strong sense of job satisfaction.

How has working in SPO developed you as an individual and professional?

I have met some wonderful people in the company who have shared their knowledge, influenced me and helped me professionally. As an individual, I have learnt a lot about who I am. I have been able to meet and establish supportive and encouraging connections with co-workers. Through these connections, I have forged many strong friendships with colleagues in the company. Having these friendships at work make even the not-so-fun parts of the work enjoyable. I’m very glad to be part of the Crewing team, which has been a great learning experience. I’m learning new things every day at work!
